Clarence Leonidas Fender 1879年-1973年

William Frederick Ludwig is the son of a German immigrant to the United States who emigrated in 1887 at the age of eight. His father was a professional trombone player, and upon arriving in Chicago the same year, he first began taking music lessons on the piano and violin. But Ludwig soon became interested in drums. Ludwig joined the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 1903, he performed at the English Grand Opera from 1904 to 1906, and became a timpanist for the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in 1909. In 1909, Ludwig, along with his brother Theobald Ludwig, founded the Ludwig & Ludwig Drum Company. They produced the first modern style bass drum pedals to meet the needs of jazz, ragtime and circus drummers of the time. Ludwig continued to grow and became one of the largest drum companies in the world by the 1920s.

The Ludwig Drum Company was founded in 1909 by William F. & Theobald Ludwig, the son of a German immigrant to the United States. In 1916, we added new products such as snare drums and timpani to our catalog. By 1923, the company employed 240 workers and became the world’s largest drum manufacturer. In the late 1920s, the company was sold to C.G., but William Ludwig continued to run the company. Ludwig’s global breakthrough took place on February 9, 1964, when the Beatles made their historic American television debut at the Ed Sullivan Show. The Ludwig logo on the front of the Ringo Starr bass drum was seen and noticed by about 73 million TV viewers. Ludwig’s sales rapidly doubled to $ 13 million. Ludwig acquired the Masser Mallet Company, a manufacturer of xylophones, marimba and vibraphones in 1965. On November 4, 1981, William F Ludwig II sold its business to the Selmer Company (now Conn-Selmer). In 2002, Ludwig merged with Conn-Selmer to become the Conn-Selmer brand.

Features of Ludwig Drums

Partly because it is an American manufacturer, the inside of the drum is loosely made and has a very wide sound. The sound converges quickly and is a thick and bright tone. Therefore, it is often used in recording rock and pop bands. It has a wide tuning range and sounds good at both low and high pitches. It is a drum that can be used in all genres as well as rock and pop.

Ludwig Drums popular model

In 2019, the “Anniversary 110th Model” was announced to commemorate the 110th anniversary of its founding.
