Organ history

The origin of the pipe organ dates back to the penstock organ, which was invented in the North African region in the 3rd century BC. It was invented by the mathematician and scientist Ctesibius in ancient Greece. Ctesibius was the second most popular scientist at the time after Archimedes. Ctesibius invented the water organ “Hydraus” in the 3rd century BC, the ancestor of all keyboard instruments. A water organ is a musical instrument that makes sounds by using water and air. The pipe organ is said to have appeared in the 1st century BC. Bellows are used for pipe organs. It is a device invented in Egypt that sends out air by changing the limited volume. Pipe organs weren’t made for a while after that, but in the Middle Ages they came to the forefront again. In the 13th century, it became recognized as a large-scale musical instrument used in churches. During the 17th and 18th centuries, known as the Baroque era, pipe organs have received a great deal of attention as they were in their heyday. The pipe organ was most completed as an instrument in the 18th century, which coincides with the time when J.S. Bach was active in Germany. In the 19th century, with the passage of the era of orchestral music, pipe organs were installed in concert halls. In 1954, a model called the Hammond Organ was born, and a compact organ was born. Organs are now a staple of classical and church music.

Organ features

The mechanism of the pipe organ has three elements. You need three elements: a pipe, a bellows, and a keyboard. The material of the pipe is metal and woodwind, and in terms of pronunciation principle, there are a flue pipe that has the same mechanism as a recorder and a reed pipe that uses the pronunciation of a reed. A pipe organ sends wind to a pipe, vibrating the air and making a sound. Put the pipes on the wind box and let the air flow through the pipe you want to ring. Use the stop lever and keyboard to select which pipe to ring. Since pipe organs are made according to the installation location, the size, number of pipes, and number of keyboards vary. In addition to the manual and foot keyboards, you can choose from a variety of tones, so you can cover a very wide range. The volume and tone of the pipe organ keyboard does not change whether you press it strongly or weakly. Therefore, we combine multiple stops to increase the thickness of the sound and express the difference in strength. In other words, the idea is to add sounds. In a pipe organ, each tone is characterized by the number and intensity of overtones. It is possible to produce sounds that correspond to overtones with independent pipes one by one, and to create a tone by combining them.

Organ song

The organ is a classic instrument in classical and church music. It is also a widely known musical instrument because it is frequently used in anime, movies, and games.
